オーストラリア盤LP”The Beatles' Australian 10th Anniversary 1963-1973 Souvenir Presentation The Beatles' Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2"です。随分前に原稿を書いてアップしたつもりが上がっておらず，原稿も上書きしてしまっていました。

1. PCSS-7533/4 (Purple 1-Box EMI Parlophone, Stereo)
　1973年2月発売。オーストラリアでのビートルズの最初のレコードリリース（1963年2月：Please Please, Me / Ask Me Why (A-8080)）から10周年を記念して，Greatest Hits Volume 1とVolume 2をカップリングして2枚組として発売しました。1973年1月にアメリカのTVで突如通信販売として売り出された海賊盤の編集ベスト盤「AΩ(alpha omega)」が大ヒットしたことを受け，Capitolが"1962-1966(赤盤)"，"1967-1970(青盤)"の発売を急いでいた時期です。赤盤・青盤は1973年4月2日にアメリカで発売され，大ヒットし(1973年5月26日付Billboard誌で青盤が1位，赤盤が3位。ちなみに2位はLed Zeppelinの"Houses of The Holy(聖なる館)"。翌週はそれぞれ3位と5位に後退しましたが，1位はPaul McCartney And Wings "Red Rose Speedway"でした。)，イギリスでも4月20日に発売されヒットしています(1973年6月23日付Melody Maker誌で赤盤が1位，7月7日・14日付で青盤が1位)。オーストラリアでは7月5日の発売でした。
　オーストラリアのチャート誌「Go-Set」では，この"10th Anniversary"が，1973年3月17日付に11位でチャートイン，翌週14位，その次の週に9位にランクアップ，その翌週にはベスト20のランク外となっています。
　青盤は8月4日付で14位，25日付で16位，9月15日・22日付で20位，10月13日付で14位，20日付で13位，27日付で14位，11月3日付で10位，10日付で13位，17日付で18位，その翌週からはベスト20のランク外となっています。
　赤盤は10月20日付で19位，11月3日付で20位となっています。
　オーストラリアのチャートで赤盤が今ひとつ振るわなかったのは，やはり直前に販売されたこの"10th Anniversary"の2枚の”Greatest Hits”が影響しているものと思われます。なにせ赤盤の1枚目に収録されている13曲の内，このセットに収録されていないのはSide 2　2曲目の"AND I LOVE HER"だけです。また2枚目のSide 3も6曲中3曲が重なっています。つまり赤盤26曲中15曲がダブっています。

　このアルバムセットはオーストラリアのラジオ局が宣伝し，それぞれのラジオ局のコールサインが金色の三角形のステッカーに記載されています。
　ステッカーには"limited edition to make a great moment in pop history presented by"の文字に続いて以下のコールサインが記載されています。私の所有する盤は"7HT"のものです。
　最初の数字は，１がAustralian Capital Territory(ACT)：Canberra，２がNew South WalesとACT，3がVictoria，4がQueensland，5がSouth Australia，6がWestern Australia，7がTasmaniaを意味しています。

　ジャケットデザインは見開きジャケットとなっており，白地に金文字を基本にしています。コーティングはありません。
　表面は右上にEMIとParlophoneのロゴマークが入り，中央には”The Essential Beatles"のジャケット中央部と同じ顔写真のコラージュが入っています。

 そしてその上に"The Beatles' Australian 10th Anniversary 1963-1973"の文字が，下に"Souvenir Presentation The Beatles' Greatest Hits Volumes 1 and 2"の文字が入っています。
　裏面は右上に”STEREO PCSS 7633/4"の文字とEMIのロゴマークが入っています。左上に三角形の金色のステッカーが貼られています。上部中央には”The Beatles' Greatest Hits"の文字が大きく記され，その下には"THESE HITS REPRESENT THE EARLY PART OF THE BEATLES' CAREER IN AUSTRALIA - 1963 TO 1966."の文字が入っています。
　ジャケット裏面中央にはソングリストが左側にVOLUME 1，右側にVOLUME 2という形で記載されています。

　見開きジャケットの内側は，下にオーストラリアでリリースされたビートルズのアルバム16枚のジャケット写真とカタログナンバー，発売年が記載されています。
　なお，ジャケット写真にタイトルが入っていない"ABBEY ROAD"と"HEY JUDE"については，ジャケット写真中にそれらしく文字が入れられていますが，なぜか”HELP!"はそのままです。

　上部には"The Beatles' Australian 10th Anniversary 1963-1973"の文字とジャケット中央と同じ4人の顔のコラージュ，そしてオーストラリアでの10年間のリリースの概要に加え，前年にEMIから発表された全世界での売上げ実績を紹介した文が記されています。

21st February, 1973 is the 10th anniversary of the release of the first Beatles' record in Australia. That single "PLEASE PLEASE ME"released on the Parlophone label gave no indication of what was to come. Now ten years later they have released in Australia 30 singles as a group and 19 singles as individuals. They have also released 18 extended plays, including the two record set "MAGICAL MYSTERY TOUR". Album wise they have released 16 albums collectively and individually Ringo Starr had 2, Paul McCartney 3(Wings), John Lennon (with Yoko and the Plastic Ono Band) 4 and George Harrison 1 - (a mammoth three record set).
Late last year E.M.I. Records in the United Kingdom compiled world wide sales details to the end of June 1972 of all recordings made by the group collectively and individually. The combined total sales of the singles, extended plays and albums amounted to 545,000,000 units. This is made up of 85,000,000 albums (with albums counting as 5 units) and 120,000,000 singles (with extended plays counting as two units).
Their top selling album has been "ABBEY ROAD", which has frossed 7,600,000 copies world wide, whilst "SGT. PEPPER'S LONELY HEARTS CLUB BAND" frossed 6,300,000 copies.

Their best selling single was "HEY JUDE" which totalled 7,500,000 copies.
Uniformity has been kept troughout the world with all the Beatles produce, although some countries were allowed to compile special albums.
Not only have the Beatles' albums met with incredible success, but their song compositions have also been well accepted by other recording artists. The John Lennon/ Paul McCartney song "YESTERDAY" has been recorded by over one thousand different artists throughout the world, ranging from popular performers to the world's leading orchestras. Another popular song was "MICHELLE". Over five hundred versions of this have been released throughout the world. Three further Lennon/ McCartney songs that have been recorded by hundreds of artists are - "THE FOOL ON THE HILL", "AND I LOVE HER" and "ELEANOR RIGBY".
John Lennon and Paul McCartney were not the only two successful song writers in the froup, George Harrison has also been active in the coposing field. His composition "SOMETHING" has beeen recorded by many artists including Shirley Bassey.
The recordings in the special anniversary two record set are representative of the early part of the Beatles' career and the songs contained are representative of their Australian hits during 1963/ 1966 period.
