　オーストラリア盤18枚目のLP”The Essential Beatles"です。

1. Apple TVSS8 (Stereo)
　1972年2月2日発売。”Essential"と題されているだけに，「"With A Little Help From My Friends”以外は全てオーストラリアのシングル・EPチャートで3位以内に入った曲ばかりで構成されています」との説明に納得しそうですが，”Honey Don't"は"Rock And Roll Music"の，"Baby, You're A Rich Man"は”All You Need Is Love"の，"Norwegian Wood"は"Nowhere Man"の，それぞれカップリング曲です。

　オーストラリア独自編集の既発盤”The Beatles Greatest Hits Volume 1"や"Volume 2"とのダブリをしないための選曲でもないようで，"Volume 1"とは"Love Me Do"，"All My Loving"，"Long Tall Sally"が，”Volume 2"とは”Boys"，"Yesterday"が被っています。
　選曲も今ひとつ不思議なら，曲順もまた不思議です。Side Oneは前期中心，Side Twoは後期中心と思われますが，Side One5曲目"P.S. I Love You”の次が"Baby, You're A Rich Man"，その次”All My Loving"，”Yesterday"と続き，最後が"Penny Lane"，Side Two1曲目の"Magical Mystery Tour"の次が"Norwegian Wood"，そして"With A Little Help From My Friends"となっているのです。

　ジャケットは表面のみコーティングがなされています。
　ジャケット表面中央の円内と裏面には４人それぞれ６つずつ，写真を基にしたイラストが載っています。
　ジャケット裏面では次のような説明とともに左から右へ年表の形で曲が紹介されています。

　ジャケット裏面左下には，デザインされた黒色の林檎が印刷されています。
　レーベルはGreen Appleで，RIM部分は，レーベル上部に筆記体で"Apple Records - All Rights of the Manufacturer and of the Owner of the Recorded work Reserved."，レーベル下部に "Unauthorised Public Performance, Broadcasting and Copying of this Record Prohibited."の文字が記載されています。またレーベル上部の上記記載文の下に"MADE BY E. M. I. (AUSTRALIA) LIMITED. SYDNEY, N. S. W."の文字が入っています。
　Side Oneの１，２，５曲目の”Love Me, Do"，"P.S. I Love You”，"Baby, You're A Rich Man"はモノ・ミックスから作られたFake Stereoとなっています。7曲目の"Penny Lane"はドイツで1971年に発売されたLP”Magical Mystery Tour"において初めて使われたReal Stereoバージョンを使用していますがスピードが遅くなっています。
　Side One3曲目のLong Tall Sallyは左右のチャンネルが逆です。
　マトリックスはYAPAX1071-3C(Side 1)，YAPAX1072-2C(Side 2)です。どちらも手書き刻印です。
　レーベル上の表記はYAPAX1071-B(Side 1)，YAPAX1072-A(Side 2)と”A","B"が逆になっています。.

　1972年12月に発売された"The Essential Beatles"と本"The Beatles In Their Own Words"のボックスセットです。
　ボックス表面には"The Essential Beatles"のジャケット表面中央のデザインがレーベルとなったLPディスクの写真と”Beatles In Their Own Words"の表紙と"& SIGHT & SOUND &"の青・水色文字が黒地の上に表示されています。
　ボックス裏面は右上に"GIFT-1"のカタログナンバーが，下部にはクレジットが白文字で，中央には本とレコードの紹介が青・水色文字で黒地の上に入っています。
　”Beatles In Their Own Words"の説明は以下のとおりです。
