　1964年発売のレコードクラブ会員向けコンピレーションアルバムのファースト・プレスです。モノ盤とステレオ盤があり、これはモノ盤です。ステレオ盤はカタログナンバーがJ-033となります。
　ジャケットデザインとして椅子に座ったRingoを囲むように３人が立って片足を椅子に載せている写真が使われていることから，「チェア・カバー」と呼ばれています。ディレクターズチェアのみが写るGolden Greatest Hitsがそう呼ばれることもあります。

Längst sind die „Beatles" über die Rolle eines rein englischen Phänomens hinausgewachsen. Heute halten sie mit ihrer Musik die ganze Welt in Atem. Das zeigte sich besonders deutlich bei ihren Reisen nach Frankreich und in die USA. Bei ihrem Gastspiel im berühmten „Olympia" stand „tout Paris" köpf und während ihrer Amerika-Tournee entfesselten sie in der „Carnegie Hall" von New York einen Begeisterungsorkan, wie ihn dieser Konzertsaal in seiner Geschichte noch nicht erlebte. 

Die Geschichte dieses Erfolges begann am 27. Dezember 1960 in der Festhalle eines Vorortes von Liverpool. Hier feierten die „Beatles" ihren ersten großen Triumph. Zwar hatten sich die vier jungen Leute schon zwei Jahre vorher zusammengeschlossen, doch ihre ersten Auftritte bei Clubabenden und Bällen waren ziemlich sang- und klanglos über die Bühne gegangen. Schon vor ihrem Engagement in Liverpool jedoch hatten die „Beatles" einen beacht­ lichen Erfolg in Deutschland, und zwar im „Top-Ten-Club" in Hamburg. Im Frühjahr 1961 kehrten sie auf vielseitigen Wunsch sogar noch einmal hierher zurück, und im Mai und Juni 1962 folgte ein weiteres Gastspiel in Hamburg, diesmal im „Star-Club". 

Seither sind so viele Platten der „Beatles" erschienen, daß es nahezu unmög­ lich ist, sie alle aufzuzählen. Fast alle eroberten in einem wahren Sturmlauf die Spitzenplätze der Hitparaden und wurden zu solchen Bestsellern, daß die „Beatles" heute bereits vielfache Schallplatten-Millionäre sind mit einer wahren Sammlung von „Goldenen" und „Silbernen".

JOHN LENNON - Geboren am 9. Oktober 1940 in Liverpool. Er besuchte die Quarry Bank High School in Liverpool und dann die Musikhochschule. John spielt Mundharmonika, Marraccas und ein bißchen Klavier und Banjo. Er verbringt seine Freizeit vor allem damit, zu schreiben, zu komponieren und Platten zu hören.
