　ニュージーランド盤EP”Twist And Shout"と”The Beatles' Hits"です。

1. Twist And Shout (MGEP-8882)
　1963年9月発売のニュージーランド1枚目のEP ”Twist And Shout"です。

　カタログナンバーはUKオリジナルのGEP-8882の先頭に”Ｍ”を付けたものとなっており，"Magical Mystery Tour"(MMT-1)，再発盤の"Beatles' Million Sellers"(EPP 19)"，Extracts from the film A HARD DAY'S NIGHT"(EPP 20)を除けば，NZ盤EPのカタログナンバーは"MGEP"から始まる形になっています。LPは後ろに"M"が付いて”PMC-"が”PMCM-"に”PCS-"が”PCSM-"なっています。

　スリーブのデザインはUKオリジナル盤を基本的には踏襲しています。
　表面全面と裏面の折り返し及び右端にコーティングがされていて，裏面は角が丸くなった折り返し(Round Cut Corner)です。
　裏面右側にはTONY BARROWによる曲紹介がUKオリジナル盤と同内容で掲載されています。ここで改めてオーストラリア盤を見てみると，1つめのパラグラフが全落ちしてるんですね。気がついてなかった。
Each of the four titles here has been clipped away from the Beatles' No. 1 LP "Please Please Me" which has been at the top of the nation's album chart for umpteen weeks as this sleeve goes to press. It is equally true that one of the songs -- Do You Want To Know S Secret -- became a No. 1 hit as a single when it was recorded for Parlophone by the Beatles' Liverpoplian colleague, Billy J. Kramer.
The items lined up on this EP have been designed to pass the audio spotlight very fairly from Beatle to Beatle, exposing four contrasting facets of the quartet's vocal and instrumental ingenuity. At one end of the scale we have the all-action, all-raving rocker, Twist and Shout ; at the other we have the more subdued mood of A Taste Of Honey.
The sessionn kicks off with that wild, compelling John Lennon interpretation of Twist and Shout. No wonder this has become a show-stopping highspot of the foursome's stage act ! John must have built himself a set of leather tonsils in a throat of steel to turn out such a violently exciting track !
The tension eases off with the second number on Side One : Paul McCartney's slightly sad, slightly nostalgic version of A Taste Of Honey. The tune began as a memorable jazz Instrumental ; Paul's clear, sturdy voice turns it into a haunting piece of atmosphere baladeering.
The second half opens with George Harrison stepping forward to chant the persuasive ballad Do You Want To Know A Secret. Penned by John and Paul,, this must be one of the year's most catchy pop hits, and George tempers his vocal delivery with an intriguing blend of warmth and wistfulness.
For the finale John and Paul join forces to handle their own self-penned composition, There's A Place. With a fair amount of Ringo's percussive pressure behind their voices they offer a part-plaintive, part punchy performance of this infectious beat number. Whatever time of the year you find yourself reading these paragraphs It's a pretty safe bet that The Beatles won't be far from the No.1 chart spot. And with a little luck they'll be No.1 on the bill at your local theatre too !　　　TONY BARROW

2. The Beatles' Hits (MGEP-8880)
　1963年9月発売のニュージーランド２枚目のEP ”The Beatles' Hits"です。2枚所有しています（うち1枚はDiscのみ）。

　スリーブのデザインは基本的に上記1"TWIST AND SHOUT"同様UKオリジナル盤を踏襲しています。上記１との唯一の違いは，裏面左下のParlophoneのロゴマーク下に"TRADE MARK"の文字が入っていることです。
　裏面右側にはTONY BARROWによる曲紹介がUKオリジナル盤と同内容で掲載されています。

The four numbers on this EP have been selected from The Lennon & McCartney Songbook.If that description sounds a trifle pompous perhaps I may suggest you preserve this sleeve for ten years, exhume it from your collection somewhere around the middle of 1973 and write me a very nasty letter if the pop people of the 70's aren't talking with respect about at least two of these titles as "early examples of modern best standards taken from The Lennon & McCartney Songbook".
The success of The Beatles as a bill-topping, chart-topping team of vocalist/instrumentalist entertainers hasn't been far short of unique. What makes this foursome's history quite unprecedented is the fact that two of the boys write (with an output rate which is prolific-plus !) all the songs which The Beatles take to the top of the hit parade. We've had successful songwriters before and we've had golden-touch recording stars before but the two entirely different facets of Tin Pan Alley fame have never before combined themselves so brilliantly in the all-round, do-it-yourself versatility of a single singing/playing/composing unit.
Chronogically speaking, this exciting little session starts with Love me do.In the autumun of '62 this number went out to the disc stores on the top deck of The Beatoes' first Parlophone single. 48 hours later it had notched up sufficient sales to put it into the charts.
Next came Please, please me which stayed in the charts throughout February and March of 1963, reached the coveted Number One slot, earned The Beatles their first Silver Disc award and eventually gave its name to a twelve-inch LP programme which was destined to become one of the fastest-selling album releases of the year.
For their third single The Beatles coupled From me to you with Thank you girl. The former zoomed the the pop peak in the middle of April and defended its mighty position against all comers for total of seven spectacular weeks. (Incidentally it was Do you want to know a secret, another item from The Lennon & McCartney Songbook, which replaced From me to you at the Number One position in June !)
Thank you girl found another way of proving its undoubted popularity by making a prolonged appearance amongst the nation's list of best-selling sheet music.
P.S. In case you still doubt my opening paragraph prophesy, you should know that Messrs, Lennon & McCartney have written enough songs to keep them in singles and albums from now until 1973 even it their composing talent were to wither and die in the immediate future !　　　TONY BARROW
